Department Summary
The Department of Pharmacology & Neuroscience in the College of Biomedical and Translation Sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNT Health) is a nationally recognized academic and research department dedicated to advancing discoveries in brain health and therapeutic development. The department is committed to preparing learners for impactful careers in biomedical and translational research, education, and healthcare by fostering strategic collaboration and delivering world-class training and research.
The Sensory Research Institute (SRI) is a newly launched, premier interdisciplinary research institute within UNT Health dedicated to advancing the understanding of human sensory systems and translating discoveries into innovative approaches that improve health and quality of life. SRI serves as a nexus for collaborative research, education, and innovation focused on hearing, smell, taste, touch, and multisensory integration across the lifespan and disease.
Research activities are supported by state-of-the-art facilities, strong interdisciplinary collaborations, and significant federal and foundation funding. The department is also home to the NIH-supported training grant in the Neurobiology of Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease and offers outstanding graduate education through its Pharmacology & Neuroscience and Visual Sciences programs. Position Overview
The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience and the Sensory Research Institute are seeking to hire a dynamic, innovative tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor with a background in Pharmacology and/or Neuroscience, with research programs complementing our existing research strengths.
The successful applicant will report directly to the Chair of the Department and maintain a secondary reporting relationship to the Executive Director of the SRI. The individual will contribute to the development and advancement of the educational, research, and service programs of the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences, while actively supporting the mission, strategic priorities, and growth objectives of both the Institute and the Department.
The successful applicant will have, and maintain, active, extramurally funded research and provide instruction and training to students and trainees through teaching in graduate and undergraduate educational programs and mentoring in research. Competitive lab start-up funding is available, and the faculty member will have access to outstanding departmental and institutional facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology or Neuroscience, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of postdoctoral experience.
- Extensive research experience as evidenced by multiple publications in their current field and current funding.
- Experience teaching at the graduate level.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
- Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Postdoctoral Researcher in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Aging, Athens Ohio
Position Summary:Seeking a self-motivated, postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Amit Sharma’s laboratory to lead research projects in investigating the resilience mechanisms of senescent cells in aging and age-related diseases, including the decline of immune surveillance of senescent cells. This includes performing wet-lab experiments, recording and analyzing data, assisting with grant and manuscript preparation, and helping mentor graduate and undergraduate students. This position will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on projects with high potential for senior/first-author research publications and for presenting findings at national and international scientific conferences. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct original wet-lab research projects investigating cellular senescence, immune surveillance mechanisms, and age-related disease models. Execute advanced experimental techniques, including primary cell culture, molecular biology assays, flow cytometry, and transcriptomic (RNA-seq) data analysis. Oversee in vivo animal studies, including the treatment, monitoring, and husbandry of aged and disease-specific murine models (e.g., idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis), administration of therapeutic/drug interventions, behavioral testing, tissue harvesting, histology, and micro-dissection. Maintain rigorous, meticulous records of experimental procedures and data, and perform statistical analyses to support scientific publications and research deliverables.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication at the direction of the PI. Assist with literature reviews and grant applications. Present research findings at departmental meetings and national and international scientific conferences.
- Work collaboratively with other research staff and faculty, and actively mentor graduate and undergraduate students in experimental techniques and laboratory protocols. Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative research team.
Preferred qualifications
- Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Biological Sciences, Immunology, Cell Biology, Geroscience, or related field. (ABD candidates considered; degree must be conferred within 6 months of hire).
- 3-5 years of substantial bench research experience in biological sciences.
- Expertise in senescence biology, geroscience, or cellular aging mechanisms.
- Proven experience with primary cell culture and core molecular biology techniques.
- Strong technical expertise in flow cytometry.
- Prior experience performing RNA-seq data analysis and transcriptomic interpretation.
- Experience with aged mouse models or disease models (e.g., idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis mouse models), drug interventions, behavioral assays, tissue harvesting, processing, and histology.

TENURE-TRACK POSITION
Epidemiology Branch Division of Intramural Research National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The Epidemiology Branch (EB) within the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is recruiting a Tenure-Track Investigator to develop an independent research program on environment and chronic diseases of aging. Scientists within the EB (https://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/epi) address the mission of NIEHS by carrying out research on the effects of the environment on human health. EB research covers a wide range of conditions with potential links to environmental exposures and includes studies that address health across the lifespan from pregnancy and child development to chronic diseases of aging.
Environmental exposures over the life course may contribute to observed age-related increases in the incidence of chronic diseases. Older individuals may also have increased susceptibility to adverse effects of environmental exposures. Multidisciplinary population-level research that combines epidemiologic, genomic, and molecular data is needed to better understand how environmental exposures throughout life affect chronic disease burden and healthy aging. We therefore seek an epidemiologist interested in the role of the environment in chronic disease, with an emphasis on exposure assessment, disease pathogenesis, and prevention. Areas of focus may include neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, metabolic, autoimmune, or other chronic diseases, as well as aging-related functional or cognitive outcomes. A new tenure-track investigator may take advantage of EB-supported large prospective cohorts to facilitate aging-related research and collaborate across DIR’s intramural clinical and basic science laboratories for translational or mechanistic research. Familiarity with assessing environmental exposures using approaches including individual level questionnaire data, geospatial data linkages, wearable personal exposure monitoring, and biomarkers is of interest. Additionally, expertise in ‘omics-based research and advanced epidemiologic and statistical methods, including methods for evaluating exposure mixtures and causal inference, would be a plus, as would be experience linking to electronic health records and Medicare data.
The successful candidate is expected to lead an innovative, independent research program exploring environmental exposures, chronic diseases, and aging. Investigators in the NIH intramural program have no formal teaching duties and minimal administrative responsibilities. They are funded internally (no grant-writing required) with the potential for generous long-term continuous support. In exchange, they are expected to engage in high-impact research with postdoctoral fellows and scientific support staff and collaborate with their colleagues to address important scientific problems related to the Institute's mission. Competitive start-up funds, salary, and benefits packages will be provided to the selected applicant. Enterprising candidates may enhance their resources by applying for outside funding that is open to intramural researchers.
